wilcom way out there everybody all right so last episode we did twr ISP all that stuff I showed you guys up pretty much everything you need to know about rockets but I haven’t really touched on anything in this building the spaceplane hangar so we’re going to start out simple and we’re just going to make a standard jet it’s not meant to get into orbit or anything like that just meant for going from point A to point B doing some cool maneuvers that sort of thing so what do we need for a plane well we need a cockpit so what’s throwing out a quick BAM now what else do we need we need well engines engines need both liquid fuel from this the mark 1 fuselage jet fuel and we also need air intake now there’s four ways we can do air intake we can do the ram air intake which is good for high altitude very fast speed we have the circular intake that uses turbo jets and everything like or actually a turbo fans to suck in there that’s great for low altitude hmm how to brain fart yep okay and then we have also the radio air intake which is kind of mix between the circular and the ram air it uses more ram air technology we’re just expects you to be going fast for you to get air into the engine but at the same time I also works pretty good for a low altitude but then we also have this engine nacelle this is very much the same as a circular intake which is great for low altitude to maybe a little extra intake at high atmosphere but it’s mostly for arm low altitude stuff so since we’re just building we’re called the crop duster that’s all this thing is going to we’re going to throw on the engine to sell and that should be all the air intake we need for this now a lot of you will probably want to do like this really cool dual engine thing and we’ll get into how to do that and everything but for now we’re just going to throw on our fuel so now we got the two parts we need to run our engine our engine we’re just going to use the basic jet engine cool now we are missing some things here that are vitally needed well not vitally needed I just consider them needed because they help a lot in the long run so first thing we need I always throw on a battery always and forever put on a battery it is so helpful when you’re trying to do maneuvers when you’re out of fuel and to help with stability we’re even going to throw on an SAS module and you’re probably thinking all that how can that possibly help I mean we already have wing services and stuff like that but when you’re just trying to fly in a straight line just the wing services the characteristics of your plane will make a point down or point up on its own or y’all left or right if you’re unbale it’s that sort of thing alright so we got battery control air intake fuel jet and the pilot it’s already looking like a plane we’re almost there now what I like to do is um a lot of people like to take these small gear bay and they throw them on and they’re crooked like that well on takeoff on heavier planes you never really want to do that throws it off all wonky and everything like that so what we’re going to do is you take two of these are tables and put them about that angle if you can just remember that or eyeball it somewhere close to that you should be able to find the sweet spot on them for these where they do that now there’s straight and they’re off to the side a little bit now up here in the front we put one I like to connect it kind of where the battery is because if you put it on the cockpit as you can see it rotates upwards and it’s funky we want nice flat level stuff if you look I reels are pretty much exactly aligned the rear wheels are a little bit high up which is actually what you want you want your nose to be up during takeoff just a little bit all right so we pretty much have everything here we have intake engine fuel landing gear control cockpit now we need to look at how we’re going to put the wings on here the key is is you want your center of mass turned off and your Center lift which pops down here right now because we have no wings so now we have to look at it like this do we want a delta configuration where it’s a giant triangle or do we want a standard

airplane where it’s long in the front and then small on the back and I personally love absolutely love the delta wing because it’s so much easier to design so what we do is we take this we actually use the thing called the delta wing and we throw it on now I’m I balling here just from experience and everything where to put it now our lift is behind our center mass which means we will nose down very hard if we try to fly anywhere also you have to put control services on the Delta wings so just go like that now we’re nosing down right now that’s bad never one knows down you can use Center thrust to counteract off balance by these two things but that requires our engine to be on at all times so we’d like to design it as a glider with an engine that’s how I like to look at it it’s a glider with an engine so what I like to use are these Delta deluxe winglets because I have their own control services built in and I kind of futz with them and I find a nice happy place here up front where they just kind of fit in nice and there we go now the key here is you want a little nose heavy a plane that slightly nose heavy flies better than a plane that’s tail-heavy because if its tail heavy with the thrust being back here it constantly to flip backwards so whether it being a little nose heavy will actually fly very straight now we need a yaw control now there’s two ways you can do that you can do to like this one like that keep in mind when you’re doing to like this you are adding a little bit of lift in the rear so you might wanna you know bring it up here a little bit something like that or you can even bring it out here if I can remember the button it’s e by the way to flip it up like that just hurry flip it up and you put them out there now that gives us two yo controls that are very much off our center of mass which will allow more stability and if you want even more yard control you can do the third one here in the center with the wings pointed straight up and down like that they provide no lift unless you’re turned on your side then they provide lift and in this case will be very nose heavy during our turns but that’s fine we can always counteract that by not turning over completely and I’ll show you guys how to do all that here in a second so this is a very basic single engine design we’re going to go ahead and launch it um if you want you can go ahead and grab your cupcakes now while we wait for the loading screen I think I said cupcakes cup puff puff p p yes i know doing videos and everything I should be great at the language I speak as so that you can all understand me well that’s not always the case Barney ways so you hit the Tiki turn on SSI always do that first and I throttle up to a hundred percent just like on rockets which launched from them before I even turn on the engine this is so we get a quick launch and everything for heavier planes you actually want to get the engine going with the brakes on for a little bit just so you have more runway space get up to about 150 meters as I can pull up and should go up hit G for their gear now if we turn off SAS we can see the characteristics of our plane the thrust is making us nose up a little bit but we could always you know bring it down we are nose heavy so it should be relatively easy to bring the nose back down this is where no SAS on turn us back on and we can actually set it perfectly level right here like this and fly quote-unquote in a straight line and I will explain i’ll lift characteristics do with the way to be playing everything like that here in a second let’s go ahead and try and turn so what you do is you turn over like that and you pull back and it looks like we are a little bit more agile than we need to be see if I can correct this there we go yet this plane is more agile and what happens is our thrust will be offline from our uh pro great and everything like that and throw us into a spin so what strike caps lock in a turn so do that we should be able to whip out a pretty hefty turn here looks like we’re pulling in yeah I’d call that eight juice during a heavy turn maybe 10 and 25 is when we spin out and then I corrected it just like that so turn off caps lock and we can bring

her back in for a landing as long as I don’t do that but I’ve been flying these long enough where when something like that happens I can correct it pretty easily now if you don’t don’t like it when you’re playing oversteers like there you can take off the battery and the SAS I like to have it for a higher control and everything like that as you can see it’s a pretty fast plane it’s very light not too many surfaces or anything like that to deal with so I’m just going to go ahead and get us lined up here cut engines right now when we come in nice and soft I like to do a little bit of nose-up nose-down kind of thing to Gladys in and let’s see if we can land right where we started touchdown breaks and we didn’t stop fast enough that’s okay though all right so that is our basic design nothing fancy there now I’m going to talk about lift now lift is a very weird thing to figure out I mean we have it all balanced it flies it’s a little overpowered so actually I’m going to do is turn off the torque on that all right so give throttle back up and get us back in the air I’m going to see if I can’t do a quick take off here for you guys there we go all right so lift lift is a little tricky to explain but I think I should be able to manage you so the the radical here is where we are pointed and the pro grade is where we are going if you have exactly enough lift to a hold the entire weight of your craft then um oops if you have enough lift to hold the whole weight of your craft the pro grade market ball should be perfectly aligned with your radical but since we don’t have quite enough lift to hold the entire way to this craft if we go exactly on the horizon here you will see we’re actually losing altitude that’s because the program is a little bit lower so though we are we have enough lived where we’re kind of going in a straight line but not quite enough lift where 0 we’re staying at 0 I’ve never really seen a plane that does exactly 0 0 and right now i’m going to show you guys what happens if we have no lift on this thing no lift justice a has to get us into the air and i’ll show you exactly how much of an angle you need to have to get that pro-grade above the horizon so we go like that and just so we have enough torque and everything to get us pointed I’m going to do that right there I’m going to launch it now this is as you saw before we were pointed at the horizon and our program was just slightly below the horizon we were losing about 9 10 meters per second of altitude now with this design a free point straight at the horizon you guys very well should know that we’re not going to go anywhere I’m actually probably gonna have to go all the way down to the end of the runway to give this to even point up yeah that’s exactly what’s going to happen i’m going to have to go to the end of the runway that’s okay we call it the rocket car all right point it up turn on SAS now let’s see exactly how much pointing up we have to do we have to be pointed at about a 25 30 degree angle to stay above the horizon on the pro grade which is ridiculous that is us flying in a straight line right there because what we have to use is the thrust to keep us up with whiffed which is what the wings give us and makes the pro grade more lined up with where we’re actually pointing the more lift and control services you have the more it stays lined up and everything like that I mean this thing is just horrible I could probably still fly it but we’re talking very not flyable and since there’s no wing services you can just use y’all get the same effect as woolly and pulling back look at this since we started going down I had to point up to just about 45 to recover that’s we’re no lift you just saw with left we were able to point just about at the book I should I show you that if we point pretty much straight at the

horizon look at where our pro great is it’s going way down see if I can recover and I did so pointing straight up the horizon our program marker goes down to probably about 15 degrees if we let it because we have nothing keeping us pointing straight up in the air so that’s lift I showed you guys how to balance your plane and now i’m going to show you guys how to do the dual engine thing the easy way this is how I do it it’s not always the correct way whatever it’s all up to you the planes are way more design heavy than they are functionality rockets are all functionality and doesn’t really matter design this is pretty much just how you want it to look so we have our intake air boat since we have two engines I’m going to go ahead and throw on actually I won’t use those because where you do is you just stick to we have to edge and so two things of fuel is usually a good way to go or you can do vice versa so you can do tuna cells and one fuel here in the center and it’s still work you just run out of fuel quicker so we’re just going to do basic engines again and it’s going to be a douche bag here so let me take that off get these on there there we go put it right about there stick that guy down there and now you guys can already see where this is going I’m going to throw on some circular intakes here on those and since we have this new design what i can do is i can put the singular wheel waiver here in the back and then the normal reals here in the front like there and as you can see the rear wheel is higher which will point us way up at launch okay and now we also have to add the wings so let’s get our center of mass all right so solar mass is actually pretty much in the center of the whole thing which is beautiful for putting on our CS and that sort of thing for actual space plans but since we’re going to be putting on tail wings now I made it so the most of the thrust in the front are the lift the lift um just to make it look a little prettier what’s throw on these now yeah why not just so it looks a little bit better than it does because we had this big reverse triangle in here but whatever that doesn’t really change anything or that like I said the design of it doesn’t really matter as long as you have all the functioning parts so now for this since our perfectly horizontal ones don’t quite pull back all the way I’m going to do two standard ones at two different angles right about there no a little bit too nose-heavy not nose heavy at all there so excuse me let’s pull that around and there we go so we got now with them at an angle like this that gives you y’all control roll control and stability all the same time it’s a multi-purpose winglet when you do it at an angle like that I just put two one just for the sake of having two and there we go that’s your dual engine design now this should be excessively stable and then when i say excessively stable i mean it’s going to be rock solid I’ve flown this design before when I was exploring areas of kerbin when I built it though i use the ram air intake and the the ram air engines let it settle turn on the engines and let’s go and you should see there without me too I’m not touching the controls you can see down here our thrust is actually making its nose down a little bit I don’t know if you saw that but the rear lift it up before the front did so it was pulling our gear and look at this not touch even controls or anything we are naturally going up this thing has enough lift due to that wing surface this ring surfers control and for these it has enough lift where we’re just maybe one degree off the horizon and we’re gaining five meters a second which is beautiful I want to see real quick right now we are nose-heavy which like I said that’s what we want more than a tail-heavy if we’re going to choose anything its nose heavy because as you can see here it lets you kind of control it and bring it back to around and so

your point stone you just pull up so we turn on our side us again let’s try a turn now and with two engines I’m at full pull back right now due to the extra weight and everything we can’t oversteer so like I said this thing is rock solid flies just like a real real airplane all that kind of stuff it’s a beautiful design in my opinion now if you wanted to go to space with it you would take this in the sell-off and replace it with a one of the long engines there and probably an arrow spike engine and then put the fins on the side back without aerospike is and everything like that then balance out your lifts and whatnot alright so let’s check our lift here once again now that we have some altitude I’m going to point exactly at the horizon as close as I can and see if we gain or lose altitude and we’re just barely losing altitude when we’re pointing straight at their verizon oh yeah this thing almost flies perfectly level we almost have enough left where it doesn’t matter fact if we cut engines here just absolutely cut engines going to quickly turn these off because we need to get down throttle on a jet engine it still actually produces power for a little bit and this is us gliding absolutely no power or anything we are gliding that wasn’t up here look at that if you balance your plane well enough you can glide like this if your plane doesn’t have enough lift it will drop like a rock and make landings almost impossible and we can turn on the engines here so we can get back to the runway throttle up I’m not going to use full throttle or anything like that i’m just going to use enough throttle to get us back to the runway and those engines are making its nose down but that’s because that the brush is so far back behind the center of mass let’s check y’all control here got a lot of good yard control ok cutting engines again gear out banking just a level us off ok and we have touchdown apply brakes now this thing’s a little nose heavy on the wheels so stuff like that can happen if you brake too hard alright um so what do we cover we covered the fact that your center of mass and your center of lift had to be nearly lined up but you want it a little bit more forward on the nose as far center of mass goes so if we look here our center of lift the blue arrow comes up just behind the center of the center of mass then perfect little nose heavy you can always fly easier with that then you can with it a nose light I’ll keep mine center of thrust if it’s behind center of mass will want to make you either nose down or nose up depending on where your lifts and masses since we’re nose heavy anyways our son of birth of thrust will want to make us go nose down if we were nose white with the center of mass was behind the center of lift then we would nose up due to the thrust that’s just they think of it as you trying to balance a broomstick I need the palm of your hand your palm of the hand being the thrust and the tip of the broomstick being the nose thank you for kind of like that all right arm we covered a lift in general how to determine if you have enough lift on your planter now up if you’re pointing at the horizon you see how much altitude you’re losing at a perfect altitude pointing on basic space plane design you can go Delta like the previous plan we had or you can go I like to call this like a glider this is like a glide kind of design and like I said if you really wanted to turn this into a spaceplane you can just throw that on there now this is going to throw off your center of mass a lot because these engines are very heavy and go like that and then you can add on your winglets as desired to get on the lift you need back here actually there’s a

little bonus a little tiny bonus for you guys no that’s not quite right with that up a little bit just trying to get it so we have enough lift on the tail end here for the heavy engines we’re still tail-heavy so what we can do is add one more somewhere in here right there perfect and then you can just add gear and then you of course swap these out for turbo jets for high altitude number turbo Jets are always for high altitude and then swap these out for the ram air intakes it’s going to be a douche bag because these are on the way so and the Delta ones on the way there’s just a lot of thing okay it’s being douchey so I’m just going to do it like that BAM now we turn my back off once again if you don’t know how to do that it’s all f12 found a laptop you’ll have to figure out how to hit your f bombs shouldn’t be too difficult though it looks like we are still really you may even just drop those and slide these forward brimfield okay what’s that some of these them right there perfect now if you notice we have our lift and mass right where we’ve always wanted it now the only problem I can see here is the exhaust from these are going to hit these wings and quote unquote damage them so now we have to finagle them around and if you put them up at an angle if you can see the center of the engine without seeing this then you’re fine it’s perfectly okay all right so that sure get into space i’m not going to do it in this video um it does take a while it’s usually about 12 minutes a flight to get one of these into space essentially what you do is you go straight up until 10,000 meters at 10,000 meters you start to go horizontal but still climbing and at that horizontal point what you’re doing is you’re getting most of your orbital velocity set and then once you’re at about depending on how many intakes you have in that sort then you should be able to make it up to about twenty-six thousand meters at that point you cut off the jet engines close the intakes point the plane straight up blast the rocket use that to get your altitude then use the rocket to get the last bit of orbital velocity neat and that’s it and this is a space point that I just made off the top of my head and if you guys I’m actually going to be starting a new thing if you guys have any vehicles or crabs or rockets or anything you want me to test and review here go ahead and send them my way I’ll show you what you did right and what you did wrong and how efficient or how useful your design is if there’s anything specific you want me to work out with your vehicle I will do that like if you build a rock and you want me to test how good it is at getting doona and what could be improved I’ll do that what if we just wanted to do a general review just in the comment section put a link and whatever way you have to I no comments block lengths but i’ll put a link to your craft file or the spaceport whatever wherever your craft is do it that way um if you want you can get a hold of me on the steam k SP chip and from there I can give you my email address and that sort of thing and you can send me crap files that way next next episode we’re going to go a little bit into fuel efficiency on our rockets and a piggy backs off ISP I know that but uh we’re just going to go over the most efficient way to get into space the most efficient way to do things how to plan how much fuel we’re going to need why adding fuel is not always the best fix for things and stuff like that all right and until then you guys have been wonderful wonderful wonderful people and the person that gave me a dislike shame on you shame on you there’s nothing to dislike about me or my cupcakes but anyways you guys have been great and you guys all have a great one
